At a meeting in St. Thomas, Ontario, a man in his 40’s said, I need to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.” I prayed with him with the laying on of hands and asked him not to speak in English or any other language he could normally speak so the Holy Spirit could give him the Gift of Speaking in Tongues (Acts 2:4). He said, “That isn’t what happened in the house of Cornelius! (Acts 10:14–17). I responded, “This isn’t the house of Cornelius! This is the house of John!” He wanted to argue and I said, “Go and read Acts 8:14–17; 9:17; and 19:6, where it was necessary to receive the Holy Spirit with the laying on of hands.
We cannot choose the way that the Lord is going to minister to us. He went and sat down. At the end of the ministry time, I went over to him. With some encouragement he agreed to let me pray with him to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit with the laying on of hands. And much to his surprise, he easily began to speak with the tongues-language which the Holy Spirit gave him.
