Learning to Listen to the Holy Spirit (Eph 6:18) Tongues the Key to a Spirit-led Life

At our Beaverton House Meeting, a man who claimed that he was a Pentecostal pastor, explained, “I am baptized with the Holy Spirit and I speak in tongues but I don’t hear the Holy Spirit speaking to me.” I asked him if he prayed in tongues every day and he said, “I don’t see the necessity to do so nor does my wife.” I explained that “praying in tongues languages” is God’s “Communications System” which is established by the Holy Spirit.

When you don’t use it, you are telling God that you don’t want to hear from Him with the result that fear develops and you lose your love for Jesus (Rev. 2:4), prayer becomes a guessing game and you will lose your ministry. He asked, “How long will it take for me to start hearing the Holy Spirit?”

For me, it was and is immediately. If we do not use “the system”, we do not hear “His Voice” speaking to us (Rev. 2:7, 11, 17, 29; 3:6, 13, 22). I suggest that, like Paul told Timothy,

2 Tim. 2:6-7
“Hence, I remind you to stir up the gift of God that is withing you through the laying on of hands, for God has not given us a spirit of fear but a spirit of power and love and self-control” (2 Tim. 2 6–7).

He said, “I guess I should get this started right away!” I said, “Let’s do it right now!” We prayed together and he started to pray in his tongues language.
