Mother's Day - The New Creation Christian Woman
GWEA Monthly Message - May 2022
REVEREND GORDON WILLIAMS

Mother’s Day is coming soon and thanks be to Jesus that women just like men, can receive Salvation, the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and do the ministry of Jesus. In the Old Testament, women did not have the assurance of their salvation without frequently offering sacrifices in the Temple.

As a general rule, with a few exceptions, they could not be used in ministry and they could not be priests nor have any spiritual leadership. The “virtuous woman” or “good wife” as described in Proverbs chapter 31, verses 10 to 31, was a woman under the bondage of the law, who along with her lazy husband (who sat at the gate), she did no real ministry for God except that she was an exhausted house wife.

With Jesus Christ, we see a “new creation” woman (2 Cor. 5:17) who is saved and baptized with the Holy Spirit; who has been liberated from the bondage of sin and the law, and who “walks in the Spirit” and “not under the law” (Gal. 5:16-18). That is the reason why Paul said, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Gal. 3:28).

I believe that the “Proverbs 31 woman” should never be used as an example for Christian women to follow. When Jesus poured out the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost upon the 120 people in the Upper Room, both men and women were present and they received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Together they went out on the streets of Jerusalem in one accord, speaking in tongues, and leading 3,000 people to salvation and the baptism of the Holy Spirit. This was the fulfilment of the prophecy of Joel as Peter explained, “God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy... yea, and on my menservants and my maidservants in those days I will pour out my Spirit; and they shall prophesy… And it shall be that whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved (Acts 2:17-21).

It was on that very day, God removed the “gender prejudice” in His ministry. Faithfulness was required from both men and women. Christian women, baptized with the Holy Spirit, have “the mind of Christ” (1 Cor. 2:15) and are equipped with “the signs following” (Mk. 16:17-18). They like men, receive “the gifts of the Holy Spirit” (Rom. 12:6-8; 1 Cor. 12:8-10) to do ministry and be effective witnesses (Acts 1:8). It is the New Testament women that are the desirable example for today’s Christian women.

Women and men, single or married, are no longer inhibited by their spouses or others when doing the ministry for which Jesus has prepared them to do, whether it is in their homes (1 Cor. 7:7), and/or in the church. The New Testament, spirit-filled women have the “fruit of the Holy Spirit” – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control”; which shape them into the character of Jesus (Gal. 5:22-23).

In our fellowship, we are blessed with many of this type of women, who are doing the ministry Jesus has called them to do. A spirit-filled/spirit-led woman is the kind of wife I prayed for, and the one Jesus gave me for the past 60 years! She is the kind of mother my children, and my grandchildren are blessed to have in their lives daily. To all the ladies, have a “Happy Mother’s Day”!

If you, and/or a family member, friend, co-worker, acquaintance, etc. want to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, I invite you to come to one of our weekly "Holy Spirit" Zoom Meetings or contact me. With the Holy Spirit guiding us, we can be successful and succeed in doing everything that Jesus has planned for us. Happy Mother's Day!
