Generational Sins or Curses No Longer Exist No More Generational Sin

"Generational Curses" or "Generational Sin" basically means passing the blame for our sin to our forefathers. This was one of the frightening realities of the Old Testament Covenant that God made with Israel. It received its authority from the second Commandment. This meant there were immediate consequences upon those who broke God's commandments but there were also future considerations in that God would allow the prodigy of the sinner to suffer the consequences of their forefather's sin. Then God saw that the Old Covenant was not working and accomplishing for Him "a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's own people" (1 Pet. 2:9). So He established the New Covenant that could accomplish His purpose of having people who were faithful to Him.

The first thing that God did was to deal with the problem of generational sin or generational curses. Listen to the anger in God's voice when He says, "What do you mean by repeating this proverb concerning the land of Israel, "The Fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are se on edge'? As I live, says the Lord God, this proverb shall no more be used by you in Israel. Behold all souls are mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is mine; the soul that sins shall die'" (Ez. 18:1-4). God makes it abundantly clear that the person who sins is responsible for his own sin. No longer can we blame our sins on our ancestors.

Surprisingly more and more Christian preachers, teachers, counselors, etc. demonstrate their ignorance of the New Testament or New Covenant when it comes to no more generational sin or curses. Jesus proved this by abolishing sin when He died on the Cross of Calvary, and proved it to be true by His resurrection from the dead and by His ascension into heaven. It was made complete on the Day of Pentecost, when He fulfilled the prophecy of Joel in which God said, "And in the last days it shall be, God declares, that I will pour out my Spirit upon all flesh, you sons and your daughters shall prophesy and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams; yea and on my maidservants in those day I will pour out my spirit; and they shall prophesy" (Acts 2:17-18).

Once at the Aylmer Full Gospel Church, Aylmer, Ontario, a young woman who came to the altar for prayer was crying. When I asked her what she needed prayer for, she said, “I don’t know what to do. I was at a meeting last week and a man told me that God could not bless me because of a generational curse. One of my ancestors practised witchcraft... So now I don’t know what to do.”

“The man was absolutely wrong!” I declared. God no longer passes on generational sin or curses.” God makes that clear in the whole chapter of Ezekiel, Chapter 18, and in Jeremiah 31:29-34. Anyone who tells you that God still passes on the generational sins and curses, does not know the scriptures. God stopped doing that in preparation for Jesus and the New Covenant. People who lay that guilt trip on others have what I call a phoney ‘non-ministry”.

Each person is responsible for his or her own personal sin. We are not responsible for any other person’s past sins including our family’s past sin. When Jesus forgave you, he cleansed you of all sin and unrighteousness. There is “no sin stain” on you from past generations.

Now, what do you need prayer for?” With her tears wiped away and a newly restored trust in Jesus, we prayed together for her to be filled afresh with the Holy Spirit and for her other needs. Anyone victimized by this wrong teaching should obtain our booklet: “Generational Sin: Gone Forever” which can be ordered from our website.
