"...God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit..." (Hebrews 2:1-9).
This passage contains a strong reminder about the bottom line of our ministry; it is all about salvation. It is important to focus on the essence of life so we don't drift away from God. He gave us His own witness regarding the message of salvation; with signs and wonders, various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit which are distributed according to His will.
These are the elements through which God proves to us, over and over again, that He wants us to live out our salvation. He confirmed the critical importance of salvation through these three unarguable facts: 1) it was spoken by the Lord; 2) the apostles heard it; 3) the witness of the Holy Spirit's ministry through miracles, signs (Mark 15:17,18) and gifts (1 Corinthians 12:8-11) confirms how vital it is.
All of these elements are necessary for the Church today. They prove that Jesus is Lord and that all things have been placed in subjection to Him. They help us to see Jesus. Today, when signs and wonders (with various miracles) and gifts of the Holy Spirit are witnessed, they are proof of Jesus' saving work. When they are not seen, then Jesus is not being allowed to be Lord.
Holy Spirit, keep pointing us to Jesus with signs, wonders, miracles and gifts so we can see Him crowned with glory and honour. Amen.
