He was Healed with 10W30 motor oil!
The Spirit Who Uses Oil
"...and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the Name of the Lord" (James 5:13-15).
Healing has always been apart of God's Covenant with us. James encourages those who are sick to be anointed with oil by the elders of the church so they will be healed. It is an act of obedience. James makes it very clear that "the Lord will raise him up."
I remember the first time a new elder (an automobile mechanic not familiar with the appropriate practice in regards to healing with oil) was called to go and pray for healing with a sick church member. In his ignorance, he took along the only thing he had - a quart of 10W30 motor oil. He prayed in faith and poured it all over the man's head! Miraculously he was healed!
It is important to understand that the healing was not in the oil - obviously it was not some kind of a medicinal remedy! Healing comes from Jesus. Also James 5:16 tells us that "the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man (a person right with God) availeth much".
Of the various types of sacramental oils available, many use olive oil, although it isn't prescribed. In the Catholic church the "Oil of the Infirm" is used in the "Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick" (formerly known as Extreme Unction).
Divine healing has always been an integral part of the Church's ministry. Sadly, most people refrain from calling church elders or other Christians to pray for them when they are sick (Mark 16:18).
The oil is God's instrument of healing - and more importantly, a symbol of the Holy Spirit who presents Himself when we pray so that Jesus will be glorified (John 16:14,15).
When anointed with oil by an elder as the bible prescribes, we can expect to receive miracle healing from sickness and affliction.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, please remind me to call on the elders to pray and anoint me with oil in Jesus' Name when I need to be healed. Amen.
