"Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith..." (1 Timothy 4: 1-10).
Here is a warning that we all need to take seriously. There are always people looking for a religious experience, rather than an authentic relationship with God through Jesus Christ. They consider themselves super-spiritual, based on experiences rather than on Biblical doctrine. These people can be easy victims of "deceiving spirits" as they are preoccupied with "doctrines of demons" rather than learning the solid doctrines of the Gospel as revealed by Jesus through His Spirit.
Such people never settle down and faithfully take their place in a church. Manifestations are more important to them than a solid relationship with Jesus. This leaves them vulnerable to being led astray by the "angel of light" (2 Corinthians 11:14) and the "roaring lion" (1 Peter 5:8) who comes to deceive and devour them.
To avoid having to be warned about getting off track, we must get grounded in solid Biblical doctrine, reject non-Biblical myths, and develop authentic godliness. It's wonderful to experience the power of God in our lives - in fact we need it - as long as it is truly the power of God and not a counterfeit. We must listen carefully for any warning signs from the Holy Spirit, who we can trust.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, please keep my focus on Jesus, that I shall not be deceived. Amen.
