REVEREND GORDON WILLIAMS

"WELCOME TO THE FAMILY OF GOD” (GAL. 5:4-6)

At a summer camp meeting, I met a 19 year old woman who had been adopted at birth and who felt that she was never wanted. Many counselors had given her conflicting advice resulting in her felling even more guilty. She said, "I’m a Christian and I’m not supposed to feel this way and I even considered suicide.” I asked, "Have you ever received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit?” She answered, "No!” I explained that in order to be accepted, you need the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Can I pray with you? She agreed. We prayed and she received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. He will talk to you every day when you need to know that we all have to be adopted into the family of God (Gal. 5:4-6) and, God becomes our "Father”. We prayed and she received he Baptism of the Holy Spirit as fell to the floor speaking in her new tongues language. Then, she said, "I feel wonderful!”

"FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS DEAD” (JAS 2:26)

A 20 year old man who worked in the Camp kitchen, responded to my invitation for prayer. He explained, "I smoke cigarettes and I can’t stop smoking. Can Jesus heal me? I agreed and asked him, "Have you received Jesus as your Saviour? With a big smile, he answered, "Yes, I did that when I was a young kid.” I then asked, "Have you received the Baptism of the Holly Spirit yet?” "No, I never did that!” I explained that for you to be able to stop smoking it is necessary for you to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Afer you will to do so?” Enthusiastically he said, "Yes!” I explained that after he received the Holy Spirit, whenever he got the desire to smoke, he must speak in tongues for the same length of time it takes to smoke a cigarette. The desire to smoke will stop because the real desire is not for cigarettes but to satisfy what Jesus calls, "the hunger and thirst for righteousness” (Matt. 5: 6). Then the Holy Spirit will be able to tell you God’s Plans for your life. I asked, "Do you understand this?” He answered, "I’ve got it.” We prayed and he fell to the floor speaking in tongues. After the meeting while in a restaurant, he came to me and handed me 6 packages of cigarettes and his lighter.

"WE JUST CAME BACK TO SAY THANKS” (LK. 17:15-16)

At a conference in St. John’s NB, I noticed that a man in his 60's was receiving assistance as he came for prayer because his left hip was frozen with arthritis and it was very painful. He was crying when I went to him. "Something is happening with my hip. The pain is almost gone! I can move my hip!” I prayed for him to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and for total healing. The next morning he came back to the Convention, walking free without any pain. He said, "I just came back to say, ‘Thanks!’” He introduced me to his wife who had a problem in her neck with pain that reached down her back. We prayed and she was healed.

"CHANGED FROM A BAD GIRL TO A GOOD GIRL” (2 COR. 3:18)

At a meeting in Moosomin, SK, I asked a 9 year old girl who came for prayer, "Honey, what would you like to have prayer for?” She sobbed out, "I am uncontrollable. I am irresponsible and inconsiderate. I can’t be like my sisters. I try so hard but I can’t. I am a bad girl.”I had a problem getting her settled down. I said, "You are a very special person. Nobody else in the whole world is like you. You just have to be ‘YOU’. That’s what Jesus wants you to be. And Jesus is going to help you, if you like. And, He’s going to give you the Holy Spirit to help you to be you.” She shook her head in agreement. Then the little sweetheart prayed with me through her sobbing tears and invited Jesus to be her Saviour and Lord and we asked the Holy Spirit to come into her heart. And, He did! She fell down under the power of the Holy Spirit and began to speak in tongues, between her chewing gum and lay peacefully there for a long time (Mk. 16: 16 - 18). The tears were replaced with a peaceful smile (Phil. 4: 7). 

 "GORDON INVITES YOU TO BE A GOOD SAMARITAN” (LK. 10: 29-37 )

In "Parable of the Good Samaritan” Jesus invite us to go down the "Jericho Road which runs through every town, city and village in every country of the World. That is every place where "The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy” (Jn. 10: 10). But Jesus also said, "I came that they might have life, and life abundantly.” The "Good Samaritan” is Jesus who has found us laying beat up and dying at the side of the road. He is the one who found us and paid for our sin, sometimes caused by others but also inflicted upon us from our own sin. The story came as the result of a rich man asking Jesus, "Teacher, what must I do to inherit Eternal Life?” He seemed to be perfect except in one place in his life. It was there that He asked Jesus, "And who is my neighbour?” Jesus told the story of a Jewish man who was left for dead and how a priest and a Levi passed by the man on the side of the road. But a third man, Samaritan stopped to help him. When Jesus asked the lawyer, "Which of these three, do you think, proved neighbour to the man who fell amongst the robbers? The man answered, the ne who sowed mercy on him.” He was the man’s worst enemy, just as the Jews and Palestinians are today with each other.

After we have been rescued on our own Jericho Road, Jesus wants us to go and find other victims dying on their Jericho roads. This is what evangelism is about. It is first about bringing Salvation, the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, healing and deliverance, food, water clothes, and other needs to people (Matt. 25: 31 - 46) regardless of race, colour, religion, nationality. Then, as Paul wrote, "And my God shall supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philip. 4: 19).

"THE HOLY SPIRIT’S UNIQUE WAY TO HELP PEOPLE SPEAK IN TONGUES”

A lady in her 40's explained, "I need deliverance. Can you set me free?” I asked her, "What do you need deliverance from?” She replied through her tears, For about a year I felt really strange and I can’t stop crying.” She went to her doctor who sent her to a psychiatrist who couldn't find our what was wrong with her. She went to a Christian Counsellor who told her that she had an evil spirit but who could not cast it out of her. She was a Born Again Christian and had received prayer for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit but didn't get it. I explained that she did, in fact, receive the Holy Spirit and her crying was the result of not speaking in tongues. It was not deliverance that she needed. She needed to release her tongues’ language. We prayed to "stir up the Gift that she had received” (2 Tim. 1: 6 - 7) but had not been able to release it. We prayed and she bust into tongues. The Holy Spirit often uses our tears in order to get us to release our tongues languages(Ps. 126: 4 - 6).

Because so many people do not know the work of the Holy Spirit, they mistake His work for the devil or evil spirits/demons. It is His responsibility, as Jesus told us is : "to convict the world of sin and righteous and judgement” (Jn. 16:8). Jesus warned that blasphemy against the Holy Spirit would not be forgiven (Matt. 12:30-32). This occurs when people attribute the work of the Holy Spirit to demons or the devil.
