What is Happening in Our Churches?
REVEREND GORDON WILLIAMS, JANUARY 2017

As we begin the New Year of 2017, I look forward to another exciting year of God’s witness by "signs, wonders and various miracles; and by the gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his own will” (Heb. 2:4).

Today, we hear reports of many churches losing members, and closing their doors all across Canada, the USA, and other countries as well. “Why? Why? Why?” am I frequently asked.

The answer is easy to find in the New Testament. Paul wrote to the Galatians Church: “I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and turning to a different gospel – not that there is another gospel, but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the Gospel of Christ” (Gal. 1:6–7). Paul continues his writing on the subject, and gives us the answer: “If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed” (Gal 1:9).

the Holy Spirit in the church

On December 6, 2016, the Toronto Star Newspaper made reference to a survey that reported "mainline church denominations losing from 40 to 60 percent of their membership":

"Since the 1960s, Canada’s mainline Protestant denominations — made up of the Anglican, Lutheran, Presbyterian and United churches — have lost anywhere between 40 to 60 per cent of their membership."1

Many people have come to me complaining, “I want my old church back!” This statement is often misinterpreted by clergy members. What Christians are really saying is, “I want my old church back (where there were signs, wonders, miracles, healing ministry, the Gifts of the Holy Spirit with the signs following!”)

Most members of the clergy and their denominations, have deemed the Bible’s promises as no longer being relevant for today. The result of preaching a “different or perverted gospel," has been catastrophic; and has led to a huge decline in church membership and shrinking congregations.

Dr. Charles Ratz, who taught Greek for many years at the P.A.O.C Bible College in Peterborough, Ontario, commented, “Gordon, what is happening in our churches? Men who were my students of Greek literature, are now preaching another gospel, and are conforming to the world" (Rom. 12:2).

"Well, we have made a point never to compromise in our ministry." Our beliefs are deeply rooted in Jesus' New Testament promises; which are still for today, and for our future. As Paul wrote, “For the son of God, Jesus Christ, whom we preached to you has not been YES and NO; but in him it is always YES” (2 Cor. 1:19). "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever" (Heb. 13:8).

bible promises are for todayToday, every promise in the New Testament is readily available for everyone. These promises are salvation, the baptism of the Holy Spirit (Jn. 3:3,5,7), the signs following (deliverance, new languages, protection, healing as outlined in Mark 16:17-18), the fifteen ministry gifts of the Holy Spirit (Rom. 12:6–8; 1 Cor. 12:8–10) and the promise that Jesus will supply all our needs according to his riches and glory (Philip. 4:19).

And this is why I get excited at the start of every New Year! I can hardly wait to see what Jesus is going to accomplish through the Holy Spirit this year!

Join us and our great adventure with Jesus! If you would like to receive salvation, the baptism of the Holy Spirit, gifts of the Holy Spirit, healing or encouragement, I invite you come to one of our house meetings or contact me and I would be happy to pray with you.

Let’s make 2017 the best year for harvesting people into the Kingdom of God!

Yours in Jesus,

Scripture of the Month

Paul, an apostle—not from men nor through man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised him from the dead— and all the brothers who are with me.

To the churches of Galatia:
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, who gave himself for our sins to deliver us from the present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ.

But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed.

(Galatians 1:1-9)

Jesus made it clear that there is no alternative route to eternal life with God. He said, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but by me" (John 14:6).
No matter how many routes other religions claim are available, Jesus declared that there is only one way - salvation through His shed blood.
Salvation is a free gift.
There is no age-limit nor sexual preference, no intelligence standards nor financial requirements; it can't be bought nor earned; and it is not guaranteed by church attendance any more than hanging around a garage guarantees that a person will buy a car. So how does one become adopted by God? It really is very simple, and can happen in a variety of ways such as...  READ THE FULL ARTICLE BY CLICKING HERE...

People tend to feel most comfortable when they can put things into boxes. Attempting to categorize Christians as evangelical, charismatic, conservative, fundamentalist, liberal, or whatever serves to clarify the differences between Christians. Taking different corners within the general arena of Christianity - like Presbyterian, United, Baptist, Pentecostal etc. - is a very "natural" thing. However, that doesn't mean it's "normal" for people who have a relationship with Jesus.
Unfortunately, in the Christian realm, what happens is people not only separate themselves into boxes with sides and lids, but they dissect the Christian experience to the extent that they end up with an autopsy and a dead body of Christ.
This so-called "categorization" of Christians disqualifies them all from effective ministry to people who need their help and encouragement. We should not be surprised when people ask, "Why should I want to be a Christian? Those people can't even get along with each other!" When people see disunity in the church, the whole message of the Gospel suffers a loss of credibility.
Paul's example is given as a guide for us. He said, "I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means same some" (1st Corinthians 9:22)...  READ FULL ARTICLE BY CLICKING HERE...
