Jesus said, “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men” (Mk. 1:17). What it really means is, “Follow me and I will teach you how to fish for people.” This is Jesus' ministry that He had intended for everyone - men, women, children; anyone who has come to know Jesus personally as their Saviour, Lord and God; regardless of where they live in the world.
Jesus’ invitation is the same for everyone just as it was for the disciples, and it will be so for everyone until He returns. Those who have received Salvation and the Baptism of the Holy Spirit are like His first disciples - fully equipped to go fishing with Jesus.
Jesus supplies the bait to attract the “people-fish” which is forgiveness of sin, the Baptism and Gifts of the Holy Spirit, healing for the sick, and authority over the devil, evil spirits and demons.
But more importantly, is the reservation made in the Book of Life (Rev. 3:5) for each believer who will live in the New Jerusalem (heaven) for eternity. This is our hope and His promise to us. Along with Jesus' invitation, comes another promise that the Apostle Paul brings to our attention:
"And my God will supply every need according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus" (Philip. 4:19). Jesus knows what is best for each one of us.
Fishing with Jesus is the most exciting adventure that we can ever have. He told us that “he who believes in me will do the works that I do; and greater works (more works) than these will he do because I go to be with the Father (Jn. 14:12).
The most effective "bait" is our personal testimonies; telling people what Jesus has for done for us. "And they have conquered him (devil/satan) by the blood of the Lamb (Jesus) and by the word of their testimony for they loved not their lives even unto death” (Rev. 12:11).
