The Greatest Christmas Gift You'll Ever Receive.
REV. GORDON WILLIAMS, DECEMBER 2022

Have you ever been asked, "What is the most expensive Christmas Gift that you've ever received?” I remember the first time I was asked that question by someone. It came across like a trick question - like a greedy person who wanted to compare the value of their gift to mine.

I remember how excited this man was because his father had given him a brand new car which had cost him over $25,000! In return, I smiled and said, "The most expensive Christmas Gift that I've ever received cost my Father a whopping $39,742,184,000.00!" He was stunned...

I explained, "He's my Heavenly Father who came this to earth as Jesus Christ. He paid for my sin in full when He died on the Cross of Calvary. I did a simple calculation to see what my sin debt would be worth today, and His cost for each person's sin is far more than anyone could ever pay back in a lifetime! So as it turns out, I'm just as valuable as your car - matter of fact, I'm the Rolls Royce model!"

The Condition of the Human Heart.

Even though we think we have a kind or good heart, I read a quote once by Melvin. B Tolson that said, "the wickedness of the heart is beyond human understanding."

What he's really saying is that until we get saved and enter into a right relationship with Jesus, our hearts will remain evil and full of sin.

Jesus tells us about the "Parable of the Unforgiving Servant” in the bible (Matt. 18:23-35) so that we might understand the magnitude of our damaged heart from the cost of one man’s sin.

We can ask God to change our hearts to be more like Him, similar to the lyrics from this Christian song:

Change my heart oh God,
Make it ever true.
Change my heart oh God,
May I be like You.

You are the potter,
I am the clay,
Mold me and make me,
This is what I pray...

Salvation is our Greatest Gift.

God's forgiveness of sin through his son, Jesus Christ, is the greatest and most expensive Christmas Gift that anyone will ever receive. "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son (as a Gift), that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16).

This Gift of Salvation is from Jesus. He died blamelessly, on a large wooden cross for all of mankind (Jn. 19:30). He was the Lamb of God, that was born to take away the sin of the world (Jn. 1:29). It is God's desire that every person, regardless of age, race or gender, receive His Gift of Eternal life (Salvation).

Jesus' Christmas is like one you never imagined!. It's about giving spiritual gifts that only He can give! His "good gifts" are there waiting for us, and when we receive them, they will stay with us as long as we live (Romans 11:29).

And when we ask, God gives us His ultimate gift - the "Gift of the Holy Spirit." The Holy Spirit is our mentor, our confidant, and our go-to-person; whose job is to guide us into a right relationship with Jesus. He is also our defense Counselor, who convicts us of sin; that we might be blameless before God on the Day of Judgement. Jesus is God's Gift, who just keeps on giving! (Acts 2:4)

Jesus told His disciples:

"Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper (Holy Spirit) will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you. And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me;... (John 16:7-15)

The Grace Gifts of the Holy Spirit.

After receiving the Gift (Baptism) of the Holy Spirit, we can also receive "Grace Gifts" or "Gifts of the Holy Spirit." There are 15 Gifts in total, and they are designed to meet all of our needs.

They are: "Prophecy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Giving, Administration, Mercy, Word of Wisdom, Word of Knowledge, Faith, Healing, Miracles, Discerning of Spirits, Gift of Tongues (other national languages), and Interpretation” (Rom. 12:6-8; 1 Cor. 12:8-10).**

After doing further calculations, I found that each "Gift of the Spirit" is valued today at about $3,974,218.40 each! (Matthew 25:14-30) Jesus is most generous with His Gifts that we might live a life with everything we need.

Each Gift has a specific purpose, and the first of his spiritual Gifts, is called "signs following.” This is a gift that after we receive, a person can use in ministry so that others too will turn to Jesus and believe. The "signs following" allows a person to "cast out demons, speak in tongues, pick up serpents, drink any deadly thing without it hurting us, and lay hands on the sick so they will recover... (Mark. 16:17-18)

God's spiritual Gifts are amazing, and once you have received them, you will have an exciting life, prosper and be equipped to do the ministry of Jesus (1 Corinthians 15:57; Philippians 4:19).

The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant.
Then Peter came and said to him, "Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Until seven times?"

Jesus said to him, "I don't tell you until seven times, but, until seventy times seven. Therefore the Kingdom of Heaven is like a certain king, who wanted to reconcile accounts with his servants. When he had begun to reconcile, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents.

But because he couldn't pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, with his wife, his children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. The servant therefore fell down and knelt before him, saying, 'Lord, have patience with me, and I will repay you all!'

The lord of that servant, being moved with compassion, released him, and forgave him the debt.

"But that servant went out, and found one of his fellow servants, who owed him one hundred denarii, and he grabbed him, and took him by the throat, saying, 'Pay me what you owe!'

"So his fellow servant fell down at his feet and begged him, saying, 'Have patience with me, and I will repay you!' He would not, but went and cast him into prison, until he should pay back that which was due.

So when his fellow servants saw what was done, they were exceedingly sorry, and came and told to their lord all that was done.

Then his lord called him in, and said to him, 'You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt, because you begged me. Shouldn't you also have had mercy on your fellow servant, even as I had mercy on you?'

His lord was angry, and delivered him to the tormentors, until he should pay all that was due to him. So my heavenly Father will also do to you, if you don't each forgive your brother from your hearts for his misdeeds" (Matthew 18:21-35, WEB)

Want to Keep the Christ in Christmas?
Every year we ask for people to help us "Share Christmas" by sending us a special love offering for those who cannot afford to celebrate. It is that time of year again! We ask you, our partner and friend, to pray and ask Jesus what you should do to help.

By sending a special "Christmas Love Offering" along with your monthly support, you will be helping those in need, who because of sickness, financial issues, injuries, unemployed, in jail and whose families need help, are unable to provide. They need our love and support!

With your "Christmas Love Offering," we can give them food and gifts, while sharing the Gospel of Hope and Salvation. Our Christ-like giving will confirm in their hearts that Jesus is still alive today, and give them hope - the opportunity to accept Him to be their Saviour and Lord also.

People need to know that “my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). Jesus said, “In as much as you have done it to one of the least of my brethren, you have done it to Me” (Matthew 25:40).

A former member of a motorcycle gang member once said to me, “I don’t understand why you people helped me and my family - you didn’t even know us. Since you were faithful to help us, Jesus found us too!”

Help us to help others, and may God bless you abundantly for your giving today!
