The First Christmas was Celebrated
by Giving Gifts
REVEREND GORDON WILLIAMS, DECEMBER 2017

“THE FIRST CHRISTMAS WAS CELEBRATED BY GIVING GIFTS" (MATT. 2:1-11)
Many people have asked me why Christians make such a big deal about Christmas, and giving gifts. Gift giving dates back to the birth of Jesus Christ. It began when His mother Mary, and his father Joseph, who couldn't get a room in the local hotel, found the nearest barn and gave birth to Jesus there.

After two years of being led by the Star of Bethlehem, the three Wise Men sought after Jesus, the King of the Jews. After many nights, they eventually found him lying swaddled in a manger where he was born. They honoured Baby Jesus with expensive gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh (Luke 2:1-20).

Since then the tradition of giving and receiving gifts at Christmas is to remind us of the gifts given to Jesus by the Wise Men. Jesus was God's only Son, and He was the sacrificial lamb who died on the cross for the redemption of our sins. Jesus is "God in the flesh," and was born to be our Saviour and Lord (John 3:16).

God's greatest gift to mankind was Jesus, and He plans to give us even greater gifts through His son Jesus, such as Salvation, the "Gift (Baptism) of the Holy Spirit", "(Grace) Gifts of the Holy Spirit", and the "Fruit of the Holy Spirit." With these gifts, we can look forward to living in eternity in the New Jerusalem when Jesus returns (1 Cor. 15:51–58; 1 Thess. 4:15–17; Phil. 3:20-21).

Some of the greatest gifts we receive from our family and friends often come at Christmas time. Children get excited as Christmas nears in anticipation of the ultimate gift. It is the time of the year where we have an opportunity to show our love towards others and share in our blessings. Jesus is the utmost giver of essential gifts, and He wants us to be generous in our giving as well.

”... for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work" (2 Cor. 9:6–8).

Gordon continues to minister Salvation and the "Gift/Gifts of the Spirit" all year 'round by accepting invitations from all around the world to preach the Gospel. And because of your prayerful help, he does not charge fees to these churches or ministries that invite him, regardless of their size. Like the Apostle Paul, Gordon is led by the Holy Spirit, and asks for a love offering gift to allow him to continue to accept invitations anywhere in the world.

Please pray and continue to be a “cheerful giver” (2 Cor. 9:7) asking Jesus how you can contribute. All offerings and gifts are income tax deductible. Income tax receipts are sent out during February 2018.

Please continue to help us to increase the harvest of people of all ages into the Kingdom of God (Jn. 4:35).

Each year we ask for people to help us "Share Christmas" by sending a special love offering for those who cannot afford to celebrate. We ask you, our partner and friend, to pray and ask Jesus what you should do to help.

By sending a special "Christmas Love Offering" along with your monthly support, you will be helping those in need, who because of sickness, financial issues, injuries, unemployment, jail time, and families that need help, they are unable to provide. We need to show our love and support!

With your "Christmas Love Offering," we can give them food and gifts, while sharing the Gospel of Hope and Salvation. Our Christ-like giving will confirm in their hearts that Jesus is still alive today, and give them hope and a future, and the opportunity to accept Jesus to be their Saviour and Lord also.

People need to know that “my God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). Jesus said, “In as much as you have done it to one of the least of my brethren, you have done it to Me” (Matthew 25:40).

A former member of a motorcycle gang member once said to me, “I don’t understand why you people helped me and my family - you didn’t even know us! Since you were faithful to help us, Jesus found us too!”

Help us to help others, and may God bless you abundantly for your giving today!

“GOD IS NOT A VENTRIOQUIST!” (MK. 16:17)
At a meeting in Dundalk, Ontario, a woman came to me at the altar for prayer who had received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit at a previous service. She said adamantly, “Last time I was here, I didn’t speak in tongues, and my feet were not healed.”

The enemy had her believe a lie because she did receive! The problem was that she began speaking in her tongues, but then, suddenly she stopped!

Again we prayed together, this time for God to stir up her Gift of tongues. She started to speak in tongues once more, but then again, she stopped and started praying in English. I reasoned with her and asked her to set aside her shyness, and to not be afraid to speak in the new language the Holy Spirit had given her.

Then she told me her problem. She thought that she had to hear her tongues in her head first before she could speak them out loud. I advised her to first pray in English, secondly, think about a specific need and then thirdly, pray in her tongues.

She tried again, and this time she continued to pray in her tongues language without stopping (Acts 2:4). We ended our prayer with asking Jesus to heal her feet. We prayed together, first in English and then in tongues (1 Cor. 14:15).

God doesn't want to control us, and he is not a ventriloquist. He doesn't possess us, or make us say things that are against our will. We have to participate and cooperate with the Holy Spirit to receive tongues.

“NOW THEY ARE SURE ABOUT JESUS’ PLANS” (JN. 14:26–27; 16:7–15)
At a meeting in Athabasca, Alberta, a couple their 60’s came for prayer. The woman said, “We are both baptized with the Holy Spirit and we speak in tongues, but we want to know what Jesus wants us to do.”

I asked them to pray along in tongues with me as we asked Jesus to reveal what He wanted them to do. They agreed, and we prayed together.

As they prayed, the Holy Spirit gave me the interpretation to their tongues: “Jesus wants you to work together in ministry, and the Holy Spirit will guide you. You are to start witnessing on the streets,” I told them.

They heard the message, and then both of them began to weep. I asked them, "What does this mean to you?” The man said, “The Lord told us the same thing, but we were not sure whether we were hearing him correctly or not! Thank you for helping us to confirm this!"

If you, your family and/or friends would like to receive either Salvation, the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, a Gift of the Holy Spirit, healing, deliverance, etc., I invite you come to one of our house meetings or contact me.

Christmas blessings to you and your family!

Yours in Jesus,

A Retreat where the Miracles Happen! (Heb. 2:4)
At a “Fishers of Men Retreat Weekend” at Northwoods Christian Camp, Pickford, Michigan, a tall man in his 30’s came for prayer. He asked, “Could I please have prayer for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit? I would like to speak in tongues.”

Without hesitation, I prayed with him and he fell backwards to the floor while speaking in his new tongues language (Mk 16:17). Praise the Lord!

Another young man who was walking with crutches, asked for prayer for reconciliation with his wife. I asked him, “Have you received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit yet?” I described to him in detail how the Holy Spirit could change him - make him more acceptable to his wife, and speak encouraging words to her. "That’s what I want," he assured me.

Together we prayed for the Holy Spirit to come upon him; as well as for healing for his leg. Within minutes he received the Gift of the Holy Spirit with the laying on of hands. He spoke out loud in his new tongues language, praising Jesus for his goodness and grace.

Another young man in his 30’s, who spoke with an Italian accent, came to me for prayer. I asked him, “What would you like to have prayer for?" He explained, “I have cancer in my thyroid. Would you please pray for me?”

Have you received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit yet? “No, I have not!” he replied. I revealed to him how the Holy Spirit is our counsellor, who guides and directs us; and how He heals from the inside out, and even up to his thyroid!

"Would you like to receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit?" I asked. He agreed! I laid hands on him, praying first in English and then in tongues. Soon after, he spoke in his new tongues language as he fell backwards onto the floor praising Jesus.

A few weeks later, I learned that he had a miracle healing: his leg was healed, and he was cancer free! "Praise the Lord," I rejoiced, as I thanked Jesus.

Smarter than the Average Person! (1 Cor:1-25)
At a meeting in the Full Gospel Church in Calgary, Alberta, a young woman in her early teens said, “There is something wrong with my head. People tell me that I’m slow.”

I asked her, “Have you ever invited Jesus to be your Saviour?” With a big smile she remarked, “Yes, I have!” I replied, “If you did that, you are not slow at all; you are smarter than most people” (Matthew 11:25).

Then I asked her, “Would you like to be filled with the Holy Spirit and speak in tongues?” “Oh, yes!" she exclaimed. We prayed together and she began to speak in her new tongues language with ease as the Holy Spirit enabled her. Thank you Jesus!

We are Responsible for Our Poor!
"Father Abraham...send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue" (Luke 16:19-31).

Here is a "rich man-poor man" story that should make everybody take stock of their lives. "Riches" and "benefit" that don't take care of the necessities of hungry individuals is called "unrighteous mammon". Selfishness is the issue. This story is about a rich man who witnesses a homeless beggar, Lazarus eating from his waste, and after that dying of starvation and sickness at his entryway. When they both had died, the rich man went to Hell, while the poor man went to Paradise where he had a wealth of food to eat and drink.

The tormented rich man asked for a drop of water to cool his tongue - however couldn't have it. The only water that spares us from Hell, and fulfills our hunger for uprightness, is the living water of the Holy Spirit. We are the rich of the world, and how we treat the poor has a ton to do with our everlasting and final destination.
