Watch for the Counterfeit Christians. The Spirit of Godliness

"...holding the form of religion but denying the power of it.  Avoid such people" (2 Timothy 3:1-13).

Paul warns that these last days are perilous times in which to serve Jesus Christ. Counterfeits abound. Any true Christian can spot counterfeit Christians. They might look just like normal, religious people, but that's the problem - they are normal religious (but not Christian) people. Outwardly, they look like Christians; they attend church services and go through all the motions, but are simply self-centered manipulators who take advantage of other people in the Name of God.

They deny the power of God, particularly with regard to miracles and signs and wonders. They have no desire to be "born again" Christians for fear that they will lose their freedom and look like fanatics. They deny the need to be baptized with the Holy Spirit for fear that they will lose control of their lives.

They fight the gifts of the Holy Spirit because they don't want to be embarrassed. They know that unless they submit to the Lordship of Jesus, they won't receive anything beyond themselves, but they don't want Jesus to have control over their lives. Like Jannes and Jambres, they try to control their churches with their corrupt minds. We are warned to turn away from people who deny the power of the Gospel. (2 Corinthians 6:14)

Prayer

Holy Spirit, please develop true godliness in me so that I can serve Jesus faithfully whether I am persecuted or not. Amen.
