Holy Spirit gives Power, Love and Self Control. The Spirit of Power

"For God did not give us a spirit of timidity but a Spirit of power and love and self-control" (2 Timothy 1:7-10).

The Holy Spirit is not a coward - nor does He cause people to act like cowards. He develops strength in us. We need to have the same strength that enabled Jesus to die on the Cross, walk through death and come back into life again. The Holy Spirit gives us the same courage that Paul exhibited throughout his prison term.  He takes away fear and replaces it with His power.

This is the power Jesus said the Holy Spirit would give us so that we could be witnesses (Acts 1:8) - the dynamite power that would allow us to talk about Jesus to anybody, anywhere, under any circumstances. In no sense an abusive, self-seeking power, it is evidenced within the context of (agape) love, invariably for the spiritual benefit of all.

When the Holy Spirit comes into lives, He does not make us sick, physically, mentally or emotionally. He gives us "self-control."  As one pastor said, "I thought that when the Holy Spirit came into our lives He made us normal."  That is true.  Weirdness, sickness, and emotional instability are not from the Holy Spirit.  He makes us normal.

Prayer

Holy Spirit, thank You for taking away my fear and replacing it with power, love and self-control. Amen.
