No Uncertainty in Prayer (Acts 2:4) Receiving the Gift of Tongues brings on Crying

pray for gift of tongues_gordwilliams.comAt the Evangelical Church Ministerial Fellowship of Canada (ECAMFC) Convention, a young couple was waiting to see me. They were preparing to do Mission Work. The woman asked about the problem of uncertainty in prayer and seeking a more clear-cut direction from Jesus. She explained that she had prayer for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit a few times but that she had not received tongues. She wondered what was wrong with her.

I explained that often people do not know how to release their tongues language because the person who prayed with them did not know how to give directions. I explained further that when somebody has had prayer for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit but has not yet received tongues, they will have any one of several physical symptoms. The one that she related to was that often when the person will cry for no apparent reason. She responded, “That happens to me!”

So we prayed with her to stir up the Gift and she immediately fell to the floor praying in tongues. After a few minutes, she said, “I didn’t receive tongues!” I said, “Oh, yes, you did! You have been speaking in tongues for 4 and one-half minutes.” She said, “I thought that I was just making sounds.” Both her husband and I told her that she was speaking in her new tongues language.

I asked her to try to speak again in the tongues language she thought she was making up. She did and I gave her the interpretation of her tongues language which confirmed their call that they were ready to do the Mission Work to which Jesus was calling them to do (Jn. 16:12–15).
