Are you Sheep or a Goat? The Spirit of Meeting Needs.

"Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, You did it to Me" (Matthew 25:31-46).

Here we have a preview of Judgment Day. There will be many surprises when we see who are the real sheep and who are the real goats. The sheep, Jesus warns, will be recognized as those who have looked after the hungry, the thirsty, the stranger, the naked, the sick and the prisoner - because each one in need was really Jesus in disguise.

In the same manner that Jesus looks after our needs, as a privilege and without complaint - He expects us to care for the physical and emotional needs of others. However, there is more here than meets the eye - we must spiritually discern all needs, and not forget the spiritual needs.

Yes, Jesus tells us to give food to the hungry, but also to give salvation, which is the "the bread of life." The physically thirsty need water; but we must also give the "living water," of the Holy Spirit. We must give clothes to the naked, but we must also offer the new white "robes of righteousness."

In caring for the sick, we must also pray for their healing. We must not only visit the prisoner, but also preach the Gospel message and set him free from sin (John 8:36).

Welcoming a stranger into the Family of God is an awesome privilege; and we, the Lord`s sheep, are responsible to look after the needy and poor in spirit in every aspect of the Gospel.

Prayer

Holy Spirit, please show me how to meet both the physical and spiritual needs of those you send to me. Amen.
