Why is Christian Fellowship Important? The Spirit of Precious Oil.

"It is like the precious oil upon the head..." (Psalm 133:1-3).

The writer of Hebrews encouraged people not to get in the habit of missing worship. In this psalm, David tells us what we miss when we stay away. The New Testament word is "fellowship"; getting together to stir up one another to love and to do good works.

Fellowship is the work of the Holy Spirit in creating a partnership, (a bond) binding us to each other, to other Christians, to Christ and to God. We can't have it when we are alone. That is why Jesus created a "Church" which means "called-out people" or people who are invited by Jesus to come together to meet with Him to worship.

David describes what happens - and happens only - in worship. "Behold how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity." The Holy Spirit causes "unity" in worship, in serving Jesus Christ and in ministry.

This "unity" is like "precious oil upon the head." That's what the anointing of the Holy Spirit is like; He covers us from the top of our heads to the tips of our toes. There is no shortage of the Holy Spirit in worship. We mustn't miss Him by isolating ourselves from fellowship and worship.

Prayer

Holy Spirit, please pour Your oil over me because it feels so good. Amen.
